Tongue tie division
Ankyloglossia, also known as tongue-tie means the tongue does not function normally, causing problems with babies latching onto both breast and bottle. Tongue tie can also affect a baby's ability to acheive a deep attachment and latch at the breast and can lead to issues like colic, excessive dribbling when feeding, clicking or noisy feeds as well as nipple damage and breast pain. We are all trained tongue tie dividers and can divide anterior and posterior tongue ties. Jill and Eleanor were both trained at Southampton General hospital and Sharon received training in house at Neighbourhood Midwives.
Eleanor and Jill can carry out tongue tie division for babies up to 9 months old and will perform the procedure for feeding problems (either breast or bottle), moving onto solids, concerns about speech development and/or future dental problems. Sharon sees babies up to 5 months of age.
We accept referrals from parents as well as other midwives, health visitors, lactation consultants or GP's.
We typically charge between £150 and £200 for tongue tie division.
