The experiences I had shaped my own feelings about the importance of birth in a woman's life and how her experiences will stay with her forever. This is why I am so passionate about midwifery and in safeguarding a woman's right to give birth to her baby, in her own way and at a natural pace.
I strongly believe that most women can give birth to their babies at home, with minimum intervention, provided they feel safe, secure and well supported. I feel that midwifery is a calling for me and feel very privileged to be able to spend this special and important time with the women who have their babies with me.
This magical time is easily overlooked or forgotten when women are cared for in impersonal hospital labour and postnatal wards, and I feel very honoured that I am able to work in a way that truly supports and nurtures the roots of a new family.
Prior to becoming a midwife I was involved in campaigning for improved maternity care for women and their families, through the National Childbirth Trust and Maternity Services Liaison Committee at my local Health Authority.
I am a member of The Royal College of Midwives (RCM), The Independent Midwives Association (IMA) and The Association of Radical Midwives (ARM).
